The Difference Between Capsule Bottom and Full Body Tri-Ply Cookware

A lot of our customers want to know the difference between tri-ply Capsule Bottom and tri-ply Full Body cookware. Many of our products offer a Tri-Ply Capsule Bottom or Tri-Ply Full Body option for purchasing. In this article, we will clear the air so you can make a better informed purchasing decision.

Tri-Ply, or “clad,” is a term that is common with stainless steel cookware. Once upon a time, all cookware was made with just one metal. Cookware like cast iron, stainless steel, and aluminum is made with one metal. But manufacturers determined that bonding more than one metal could be beneficial.

AVACRAFT Tri-Ply Pots and Pans

In our product testing, we have realized that this is a good idea when it comes to stainless steel. Stainless cookware does not cook foods as even as when combined with other layers of metals. We tested the metals and determined that a combination of stainless steel and aluminum creates the best product. Stainless steel is highly durable and resistant to stain, rust, cracking and corrosion. With this combination, we were able to create pots and pans that heat food evenly without hot spots in the food.

Capsule Bottom Pans

Capsule bottom pans feature multi-ply, or multiple, layers only on the bottom. The number of layers is typically either three or five. Our pans are created with a high-tech method.

Three Layers:

The outer magnetic stainless steel in Stainless Steel Tri Ply Capsule Bottom helps with induction compatibility. The middle layer features pure aluminum, which helps with even heat distribution. We include inner food grade 18/10 stainless steel on the inside layer. This way, it’s the only part that comes into contact with food. The outer walls of our capsule bottom tri-ply pans are created with just one single layer,. This helps to keep the cost lower. These pans are designed with people with wrist pain, arthritis and for the elderly in mind. Because they are made with high quality 18/10 stainless steel, they are higher quality despite being lighter in weight.  Most other pans on the market are lower quality at 18/0 or 18/8).

Five Layers:

Pans with outer magnetic stainless steel helps with induction compatibility. Pure aluminum is the next layer that helps to evenly distribute. The middle layer is a heat retention steel layer, which helps to retain heat while saving energy. Next, another layer of pure aluminum comes to help distribute heat evenly. Finally, on the inside of an AVACRAFT five layer pan is 18/10 stainless steel. This pan’s 5-layer design of capsule bottom helps with greater heat retention and heat distribution. It is great for low heat cooking and also saving energy. The advantages are about the same, with a lower weight and lower price.

Full body multi-ply pan

Full Body Multi-Ply Pans

The term Full Body Tri-Ply refers to a pan that is created with three plys throughout the entire body of the pan. The layers of AVACRAFT Full Body Tri-Ply pans are manufactured in the same order as those in the Tri-Ply Capsule Bottom pans.

In addition to Tri-Ply layering, some manufacturers also sell products that feature 5-Ply or even 7-Ply padding. The biggest difference between Tri-Ply, 5-Ply and 7-Ply layered products is their cost. These multi-ply pans that cost more are not necessarily higher quality. A pan that is well-constructed that has just 3 layers works great. One of the most significant differences a higher ply pan has, is that it is heavier.

AVACRAFT currently has tri-ply full body pans with  future plans to bring 5-Ply full body pans. The Full Body Multi-Ply pans that we currently offer (and those that we will offer) are higher in quality. They also weigh a little more. They are also slightly higher in price but we are sure you will notice the difference.
